I would just use test tubes for the time being.

That was my plan but to catch them I had to get dirt and all and so far I can't get them out of the dirt

I wouldn't be too sure of the identity unless I could get more images of the queen or see her size in comparison to the workers.

You can just place test tubes on top of the dirt, and they will move in when the soil dries out.

It took me a bit to get them moved into a formicarium and get some pictures but here is the queen (with the half wing) and there is 3-4 other queens here also not shure if they are the same type or not you can see one of them just above her

Sorry if I caused any undue excitement. The earlier series of photos led me to believe that the queens were much smaller than they actually are. Sure, they are pretty modestly sized for Formica queens (from the pallidefulva group), but if they are mated reproductives of the colony, then the small size might allude to their polygynous behavior.

I am still new enough at this that I don't know what to be excited about yet but thanks for the help not shure why I didn't ad a ruler for scale in those pictures but here is some with a ruler

Hello did you say you wild caught that colony if you don't mind me asking where did you find them under a tree a rock etc ive been wanting to get some of those ants I'm not going to even try and spell the name :lol: I have seen some of their workers running around and until recently thought they were a type of camponotus however I have found the camponotus around my house and have seen the error

i actually found them under a 4" block of 2x4 out in the wide open in my back yard kind of a open gravel area
