Formica Polyctena
Hello! I'm new to this forum and I have a problem.
A week ago I captured a queen of the formica polyctena. I put it in a test tube and gave it some host workers from the formica pratensis.
It has been past a week but didn't laid any egg. Do you have any idea why?

Re: Formica Polyctena
One week is not long enough to be worried. Make sure they have foraging space and access to food.

Although you may want to add some pupae or something, because three workers is very few to be starting a social parasite colony.

Re: Formica Polyctena
Knowing that my queen is of the formic polyctena and her workers are of the formica pratensis, it would work if I added some cocoons of the same species as the queen or formica rufa ?

Re: Formica Polyctena
If they are the same species as the queen, then probably yes, although adding a third species into the mix may not work out in the same way.AntsRomania1999 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 08, 2017 9:30 amKnowing that my queen is of the formic polyctena and her workers are of the formica pratensis, it would work if I added some cocoons of the same species as the queen or formica rufa ?
