Queen needs ID - caught May 30 in New Brunswick, Canada

Hi everyone,

My son and I are just starting into ant keeping and we've caught our first queen! I'm pretty sure this lady is a camponotus of some description because I understand they're pretty common around here and the timing would be right, but being as how she's our first ever, I'm not sure. If anyone can verify, that would be great!

PS - hopefully these pictures work! I followed the video tutorial but this is my first time trying :-)

My apologies, I knew I'd forget something! She's about 10 mm long.

Definitely a queen, looks like Camponotus but might be wrong.

This seems more like an early flying Formica to me.

Do you need different pictures or angles to be more precise? I'll be checking on her tomorrow and I can take another few shots then.

Thanks very much! I'm eager to do this right and I know that genus/species will affect what sort of environment we need to set up.

Bump - just want to see if anyone can ID this girl :-) She's laying eggs and tending them so I'm hopeful that our antkeeping adventure has begun!
