___ New Queen Ant Blog
I got my queen in late April, but I don't know the species, nor can I take good pictures. Anyways, she appears to have a really awesome larvae pile, I think around 14, however considering it's been about a month in a half, I decided to feed her a mealworm. The response was disappointing, but expected. She declined, and stung it. I'll update next week.

She doesn't need food during the founding stage (unless she is semi-claustral). If you want to feed her, just a tiny drop of honey/sugar water would be enough.

Thx. I just checked on her and the larvae have obviously had plenty of food from the queen. I suspect we'll have a worker in roughly 2 1/2 weeks Can't wait!

Okay, either I didn't want to give my hopes up about the workers coming soon, or I suck at being able to tell how long till they mature. Anyways, because they were close to maturing, I decided to feed the queen some maple syrup. I used part of a barbeque skewer, and opened up the desk she was in. Then I saw 5 workers! They immediately took the maple syrup, even the queen! This is my first successful queen and I'll be sure to give her the best home I can offer

Now that we have the nanitics, I think we should name the queen. Any ideas?

Re: ___ New Queen Ant Blog
People say without pictures, I won't be able to find out the species. However, where I live, there are surprisingly few species of ants. I think it might be one of the species:
Technomyrmex albipes
Paratrechina longicornis
Monomorium florica
Camponotus variegatus (very unlikely.)
I'll have to wait to see if they're polymorphic, walk in straight or random lines, and for the workers exoskeletons to harden in order to verify any of this.

Re: ___ New Queen Ant Blog
I checked on the colony again, and it seems there are eight workers now I also noticed that their gasters were more deflated than last time. I fed them some more maple syrup, but during the process, the syrup dripped of the barbeque skewer, some of which dripped under where the cotton goes. I'll add a portal soon, cause it's getting harder to feed the workers without them attempting and escape, which will give me a chance to add another test tube.

Re: ___ New Queen Ant Blog
Thx for the support :D Like I said, I don't think it's camponotus so I sadly can't give you any specifics. However, I have heard that Sugar ants are a very tough species, perfect for most beginners. You can also try pheidole or pavement ants, because they get through the claustral phase quicker. I hope this information does you good :)
