Vancouver/Washington/USA - 9/17/16
I was sitting on my computer when this girl just landed on my arm. I almost swatted her thinking she was a gnat. After placing her in a test tube set-up she immediately ripped off her 4 wings. I have a few images up on Imgur. I apologize ahead of time for the image quality, even with my macro lens I had trouble getting a great shot. I'm leaning towards this being Brachymyrmex depilis but I honestly have no idea. Any help in identification or care would be greatly appreciated. There's a penny in one of the photos for size reference. She's very small, about 2-3mm.

I have a brachymyrmex depilis and she definitely looks a lot like mine! would definitely make sense with the time of year, too. And that small.
its cool when you find one right in your house. it feels like saving them from a fate of just getting lost in your house and dying.

Lol I caught a queen on 9/17 too! So far all Id's are saying brachymyrmex but mine is darker and 5mm
Right now the most precise is just brachymyrmex sp. So I'm still waiting to find out what her exact species is. The funny thing is, I found her crawling on my bathroom floor.

Do an ID request.

I caught a Brachymyrmex depilis just yesterday and I'm looking for information on how to keep them. My very first queen.
This is the page that finally confirmed for me that my queen is a Brachymyrmex depilis and I think that it will help you too.

On the fly I had cobble together a founding chamber for her out of dumpling sauce containers, cotton balls, and some nice loamy sand/peat mix from the fern garden. Used a skewer to make a hole in the dirt to get her tunnel started and she's been happily tucked away in the burrow she made ever since. The way she was acting before finding that hole I don't think that she would have been happy in a glass tube.

Oh, that site had some good pictures. Definitely the right I.D.
I might move mine out of the test tube set-up if she doesn't start laying soon. I don't think it meets her criteria.
