Aphaenogaster sp.

Egg-scattering is often a bad sign.

Is there something I can do? Does it mean infertility?

Aphaenogaster is a semi-claustral genus meaning they do need to eat during the founding stage.

Egg-scattering is not always a sign of infertility, sometimes though queens are just messy.

Aphaenogaster are claustral, except for the social parasites.

Ahh I was reading about them and I assumed all where semi-claustral. My mistake.
