Re: The Bottle Colony
So the tube was too small to fit in the bottle so I had to use cotton. The ants managed to push the cotton losser and slip out. Luckily it was too small for the queen and the ants who escaped wanted to come back. So pretty lucky about that.

Re: The Bottle Colony
I see. What you could do is get a bigger tube and stick the small tube in there. Then cut off the bigger tube to create a ring around the small tube. Now you can try and fit it to the bottle. If it's too big you can cut off some pieces around the tubing. Or you use sandpaper to make the tubing smaller and fitting.
Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

Re: The Bottle Colony
I mean I suppose I could if I wanted to keep the bottle. I think about it. Also update: I think I finally have all workers finally contained so that's good. I have the setup jam packet with cotton on the loose spots. I'll post a picture in a little bit

Re: The Bottle Colony
Yeah I had my messor barbarus manage to pull out the dry cotton of a water testtube piece by piece and then they proceeded to store all the seeds. haha. It was pretty funny and interesting to see. They did only do it with one of the two testtubes tho.

Re: The Bottle Colony
This is the final update of the bottle colony. I released them due to high stress for me and so they could care fore themselves. They wanted to escape for a reason I couldn't figure out so I released them 10 minutes ago. It's for my mental health and their health. I'm sorry if you enjoyed reading about them but I had to let them go. I have another Camponotous queen so I'm not entirely quiting the hobby but I am quiting the bottle colony. If you want to learn more or want to hear about the other queen let me know because I'll tell you.
