she may need a little protein. sneak a cricket thigh in there next time you feed.idahoantgirl wrote:soooo, It has been seven days now since my first lasius neoniger nanitic appeared, and there have been no new arrivals. Is this strange? I have been giving them a drop of honey every couple days and they drink it right up. They are being kept in a warm room with little airflow.

i wouldnt personally, but i have heard others do it. not sure about the species and weather they will take it. petsmart sells crickets. i usually get a few dozen and freeze them to use at leisure.idahoantgirl wrote:Okay, I don't have crickets right now, could I use a very small piece of meat until i got crickets?larynx wrote:she may need a little protein. sneak a cricket thigh in there next time you feed.idahoantgirl wrote:soooo, It has been seven days now since my first lasius neoniger nanitic appeared, and there have been no new arrivals. i freeze everything i give to my pets first. freezing gets rid of any parasites that may be present in the food. it also makes it so much easier to keep more food for them for a longer time without it going bad.idahoantgirl wrote:oh, I didn't know you could freeze them! good idea!

yay! last night two more nanitics was born!!! Now I have four!!!!!
it's kind of interesting how they seem to come in week increments. I got my first nanitic, then eight days later I got my second, then eight days later I got two more!

Re: Lasius Neoniger first time journal
how much change in size should I expect? also how long would you estimate before I havve enough workers to move into a lasius hybrid nest? how many workers do you suggest before they are moved? I've heard people say 5-10, and others have said 50! lol I have a lot of questionslarynx wrote: it is pretty neat. just wait until the sizes start to change as they are eclosed. its pretty cool too.

Re: Lasius Neoniger first time journal
they only vary from 2.5 to 3.5 i believe. not a big difference in measure, but they will look considerably different to the eye.
best to move with as many workers as possible present. i usually give them the opportunity to move when it starts to get simi difficult to feed them in the tube. this also depends on the size of the tube, though.
i have moved some with around 10 workers, ive also moved them when they have had 60 or so.
