So does it have some holes in the back of the nest that access the outworld?
I'll happily send you the full 3d model if you like, so you can look at it in more detail and from any angle. The different parts are all drawn in their separate layer, so you can actually take it apart too.

Send me your email in a pm if you're interested.

I'm good. That was what I thought it would be in the first place. It seems like a very cool design and I'm a little interested in the gasoline mesh. sounds very useful.

Hello All,
thanks for all the support thus far its been really helpful.
I fed the 3 queens I have a little bit of honey last week, and its been a few days. I did a quick check and nothing so far. Still hoping though as we have had all 3 queens for roughly a month now.

Below is a pic I took today quickly. I am curious as I could only find a larger brand of test tube, if it is just to much space for her to feel comfortable to lay eggs. I saw on of the videos on the AntsCanada Youtube channel that it can be a good idea to put some dirt in, allowing the queen to create an environment she wants to lay in.

Is that something I should do?

Also, in the picture the queen is on the cotton near the exit of the tube, it seem when I peek at them in the dark, they are always in that spot.

Thanks again, Cheers.

The test tube looks fine to me, I think you need to just let them alone for a few weeks then check on them. They may also not be mated. If they haven't laid eggs yet that is.

I am concerned about that. But we found them all after their wings were off.. so I hope they mated. My son will be extremely disappointed if none of the 3 lay eggs.

I will ignore them for another week. Is there a time line where we should give up if they dont lay eggs? like 2 or 3 more weeks?

Are those water drops in the tube? She might just like her feet dry :D

Hi, I'm new to ants. I have constructed deferent paludarium, terrariums and aquariums, current housing a 150 gal African ciclid Aquarium, a 36x18x36 paludarium with crested geckos and carnival crabs, 24x18x18 terrariums with cobalt poison dart frog and morning geckos.
I'm looking at starting a colony of Camponotus Sansabeanus, and was wondering if anyone has a care sheet worth of information. I have not found much information as other species, and some of the Information was conflicting, like brumation, ideal temperatures and food habits. I'm looking forward to this new adventure, any Information will help.

Hi everyone!

A little update, my camponotus Penn. Queen now has 5 workers and still a good amount of brood that is on the way.

I know you have to wait until you reach 20 workers before you move them into a formicarium. My question is what is the best formicarium for a camponotus Penn.? I have been thinking about ordering an AC small tower kit. I would really like the option to see the ants under the surface. Anyways I’m sure it’s a few months away,

Thanks for your help

Welcome, I’m new as well, so yea it hard to find information. I found this video helpful. From what I understand most Camponotus care is the same. And if you are raising a queen, you can forget about the formicarium and out world for many months maybe a year. If you move her out of test tube or a special founding formicarium without 20 workers, you could end up killing your queen. Camponotus ants are big ants so it take longer to raise them than other ants

I have two of these for my campos, and my first thought when I got them was" thats really small, is you take out the little thing in the middle then there might be enough room for the queen to turn around. mine still haven't move into the dirt yet, but I think that's because there a little small in numbers. The other thing is if they don't want to come into the outworld part, then it will be hard to get then to eat, that's a miner problem i've had, but now they will go in and out. the only other thing about it is that with the test tube attached it will tip over easily, but you can use the little plastic insert to put under the test tube.

So in all it will work for camponotus maybe just not the best, but for the price it's ok, plus it's the only thing available on amazon from AC.
