Brachymyrmex depilis question?
Does anyone know if Brachymyrmex depilis are the kind of species that has multiple queens. I cant remember what those are called. If they are should I put two queens in the same test tube? This forum has a topic where someone put two Brachymyrmex depilis queens together

The term you are looking for is polygynous -- Polygyny vs monogyny. That may help you find more info on the subject. I personally don't know if Brachymyrmex spp. are polygynous or not.

Ok thanks, they are polygynous so what do I do. I have 14 all in separate test tube setups. Should I put some together? Will the queens lay more eggs that hatch into queens? Thanks!ooper01 wrote:The term you are looking for is polygynous -- Polygyny vs monogyny. That may help you find more info on the subject. If it were me, I would "test the waters" first on some of them and see how it goes. If all is well after a few days, combine as many as you'd like.AntsRule wrote:Ok thanks, they are polygynous so what do I do. I have 14 all in separate test tube setups. Should I put some together? Re: Brachymyrmex depilis question?
There are a ton of colones outside, so I was watching the alates hang out around the nest until they flew. I searched for a while under some rocks and boards. I found a ton under there because they were avoiding the sun. I think my total now is 20 They have such tiny brood. But my 15 queen colony has a pile of brood the size of a pea!nightxwolf88 wrote:How did you find so many brachymyrmex?

Re: Brachymyrmex depilis question?
I just got into ants again this year and didn't start hunting till the 25th of may and only have seen camponotus flight. I happened to stumble upon colony of brachymyrmex depilis under a rock and the queen was on the rock scooped her and some brood and workers but got soil too so having a heck of a time trying to observe them. Would love to get some more of those lil guys haha
