Hello! I've been a fan of the AntsCanada youtube for a long time and my family decided to get my father an ant colony for my parents anniversary. We are from California and I know I want to get a Camponotus colony going but with all the variations im not sure which will be optimal. Id like a bigger variety thats simple and rewarding to care for so id love some guidence and suggestions! Much love and thank you

Camponotus pennsylvanicus is a great starter species that is quite big. Camponotus novaeboracensis is another big one.

congratulations you live in the best camponotus state now here are some of my favorites( your state does not have Camponotus novaeboracensis or Camponotus pennsylvanicus) so heres my pics Camponotus herculeanus, Camponotus modoc and Camponotus sansabeanus(all native to the state of California)
