technomyrmex cedarenisis Update/timeline

October the 5th: found a technomyrmex cedarenisis queen with wings still attached being attacked by 2 other worker ants. I then saved her and Put her in a vinyl tubing setup.

notes to flight: No rain, little wind, Humid.

October the 7th: checked up on her and she tore of her wings. She also had a few very small eggs.

November the 8th: Checked up on her and there were about 5 newly hatched workers. I moved them into a tubs and tubs setup.

Note: no cocoons.

November the 12th: they have built there own thing in the tube, can no longer see the queen.

November the 22nd: population boom quite a few workers have hatched.

December the 20th: population must be around 50+ workers. From what i have read this is a lot of workers in a 3 month and a half time period from queen to 50 workers.

note: can still not see the queen but i presume shes there as i can see a lot of eggs

December 28th: preping them for a 10 time frame as i will be away. Gave them a honey source along with some fish food

Hey Ausants, sounds like things are progressing great for you! Can you add some pictures of the setup or describe it a little more? Also, what have you been feeding the ants? Honey and fish food the whole time?

Hey, I will try get some pics soon. The nest move isn't going as smoothly as i would have thought. i used vinyl tubing But they were slowly figuring out a way to escape. Now i put the nest in the out world hopefully that will work. I think i added a little to much water to the nest though.

I have been feeding them bugs such as frozen cockroachs, crickets, grasshoppers and springtales with a constant source of honey. I fed them fish food because i was away for sometime and i think it doesn't mold as fast.

stole 3 of there queens and lots of workers/brood, They are a invasive species so should've done something sooner. Doesn't feel nearly as good as bringing up a colony from a single queen. especially if it is your first.

ah, so i accidentally left the lid the tinniest bit open and a box was touching the wall. I house my ants in containers on a table with all 4 legs covered in vaseline. a invasive pheidole colony found them and killed the technomyrmex cedarenisis colony. When i found out they did this, i then went to their nest and stole 3 of there queen ants with lots of workers and brood.

I will probably still use this journal for a opisthopsis sp colony, which i find they are very interesting ants but they grow slow and a pheidole colony.
