Hi all, my 9 year old is obsessed and has been looking for queens everywhere. I think we're out of nuptial flight season and I see she still has wings, though they seem to be damaged. I appreciate any help with species and whether or not she may be mated?

Thanks in advance!

Having some trouble posting pics... I think I got it now. She's about 1.5-2cm long. Thanks again for looking!

so i think that might be Ectatomma tuberculatum but i'm not familiar with those ants so could very well be wrong
1x Lasius Niger - early forging stage - 60-100 workers
1x Messor Barbarus - founding stage - <20 workers
1x Camponotus Turkestanus - claustral stage - 1 nanitic + brood
1x Odontoponera Transversa - semi-claustral stage - no eggs

Thanks again, online search definitely looks like her. We'll see how we do with the claustral chamber!

I think you got it right Lasius. It's actually quite an interesting ant which developed a relationship with another far smaller ant species. Kind of like how sharks allow little fish to clean their skin, wounds, gills and mouth, these ants have cleaner ants at their disposal. They even allow them to clean their mandibles. Have a look at their description on antwiki.

wow! Super cool, I'll look through the forum and see if there are any tips on how to care for the queen and raise a colony. If anyone has tips or can lead me in the right direction it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks again!

Well step one would be to join our Camponotus Crew thread. (Not all just about carpenter ants)
