Can a test tube portal be used as an outworld?

I recently ordered an AC hybrid nest and an AC test tube portal. Thing is, I blew all my money on those. I don’t know if I’ll have gotten enough money for the (kinda expensive) outworld by the time I get enough workers. So I was wondering, can an AC test tube portal be used as a replacement for an outworld?

It would be rather small as an outworld. A small aquarium or a large vase would be a better option? While I like the products from the AC store, I haven't bought it either, even though I am sure it's a good product, it seems overpriced. You're not the first to complain about its price.

I use the test tube portal as an outworld and it is meant to be one. Of course it only works well on small colonies.
