On Thursday I captured a C. pennsylvanicus queen. I placed her into a test tube, and we'll see if she's mated when I check on her next.

I recently had a Camponotus queen die, me and the GAN farmer I have been in contact with had been trying to trouble shoot the reason her and some other of her workers passed, but not all. It seems it could have been that there were trace amounts of pesticides in the honey I had fed them.

All is not lost though, I now have two budding colonies that seem healthy and happy. I hope you, too, will find new success this season! It's very sad when a queen dies, but it's a reminder of how fragile they can be and how lucky we are to be able to keep them and watch their lives.
