Help identifying huge Brazilian ant. Queen?

Hey guys,

I am currently back home in Brazil and after a really strong tropical rain, I managed to save a really big ant from drowning in a pool.

Because of its large abdomen, I think it is a queen. I would love to start a colony here in Brazil as well and give it to my mother to take care of. But I have no idea about ant species at all, so I'm asking you guys for help!

She has +-2cm and I'm located in Paraná state (south Brazil).

Here the picture:

Please also tell me if it's really a queen.

Hope I didn't save her too late and she doesn't die :|

Thanks a lot!

Thanks pconsorte!

And what do you think, is she a queen?

From what I could see, it seems like she has a wing scar but I'm not so sure...

Today I managed to find A LOT of queens after the strong rain, but all from other much smaller species...

Thanks again, I'll have a look at the link you sent!

Thanks again!

Sadly I just checked on her and she was dead :(

Maybe she took too much damage at the pool, with high concentration of chemicals...

But thanks anyway for all the help! I'll look on the same spot, maybe I manage to catch another one.

Paraponera clavata is known here as a subspecies from the bullet ant and by the description It looked like one of this species.

Thanks again!

Hi!
I am not sure but i don't think that was paraponera clavata, for the first P.Clavata is about 3,5 cm long and for the second it doesn't look exactly like that Look at this pic.https://www.google.com/search?q=paraponera+clavata&safe=active&rlz=1CACLSF_enSE813SE813&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiv7pGJpLzhAhWhwqYKHYZbAGIQ_AUIDigB&biw=1366&bih=697#imgrc=2-UrR1AOzJltNM:

Im sorry. But you may be right.

Ps: I didn't take that pic
