Hydration medium qustion

Just wanted some feedback on some hydration medium I am currently using cotton balls but I would like to know what works best with the camponotus hybrid nest 2.0 I think I may need more like a mat than individual cotton balls

dirt, sand, cloth, sponge

Sometimes if the dirt is disturbed it spills through the hydration holes and into the nest. I would rather use something solid.

I just didn't know if there was a "works well with hybrid nest 2.0" thing to use, or is it more like personal exp. or favorite I just think the small cotton balls leave to much space in between and would rather have some more solid cotton. I do have some play sand (50lb bag) do you think the sand would keep mold down?

I know some people that use perlite too. I personally don't know anyone who uses straight sand but I do know that people use sand, dirt, and clay though.
