Pheidole is the most diverse genus on earth with over 2,000 species, so there are probably a lot of black pheidole species.Ltislander wrote: ↑Sun Aug 26, 2018 4:24 pmI thought so. But I’ve seen some black Pheidole ants around here in Massachusetts. I have a nest in my backyard and sometimes see the majors.AntsDakota wrote: ↑Sun Aug 26, 2018 2:21 pmPheidole pallidula is non-existent in North America.AntsOfOntario wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 9:14 am
There isn't an exact size for them but the average species size is about the same as the one you have there. This queen could be Pheidole Pallidula.

They have loads of brood and are eating 5 fruit flies a day! I give them a cap of honey that gets half drinked everyday. Those girls are hungry!

They ate their first mosquito! They loved it!! Also some of the nanitics are “riding” the queen around and getting off when they get somewhere else! Also we’re up to 11 workers!!

My queen had a large head like that, too.

Re: Tetramorium sp.E journal
My parents were clearing out our garden and found a tetramorium ant colony, they said thousands of workers went outside of the nest. They saw some brood and put it in a plastic bag. I’m about to brood boost them with the brood. Also the colony has moved away. I’m about to brood boost them. They took a worker and gave it to me so I looked at it with my macro lens and it had no mites. I also looked at the brood, again no mites. Btw I released the worker.

They didn’t accept the brood. But the queen has a new batch of eggs coming soon!

You could have put Tetramorium brood in with a Pheidole colony, or vise versa.Ltislander wrote: ↑Wed Sep 05, 2018 6:30 amThey didn’t accept the brood. But the queen has a new batch of eggs coming soon!
