Can You ID my first queen?
good heavy rain today, so i decided to take my first ant queen search. not 5 mins in, do i find this Ant... im pretty sure it is a queen, I think it looks like these red and black ants with majors a block away.
shown is a transferred millimeter ruler. id guess around 7mm. found today, in Louisiana.
is there anything else you need for an ID?
thank you in advance.

That looks like a Lasius Niger(Black Garden Ant), or it may be a Tetramorium caespitum(Pavement Ant). It is hard to be sure, tho that is probably a L.Niger. It looks just like mine, and mine acts like a L.Niger.
Hope that helps.

Re: Can You ID my first queen?
so i have been trying to be a good ant keeper, i have been trying to research how and what.a friend of mine made a suggestion of what. so i began looking.
so after looking at alexander wilds photos, and zoom into mine i see mine has a hairy abdomen, and two nodules on its distinguished petioles. this reminds me of his photos of solenopsis ( my friends suggestion)
but i still have no clue what im doing with regards to identification.
thats three potential IDs.
any others, or any confitmations ?

Re: Can You ID my first queen?
This certainly isn’t Lasius or Tetramorium.

Oh, ok. I am not that experienced so you are probably right.

Re: Can You ID my first queen?
I have two identical queens that I'm fairly certain are Tetramorium, and they're a bit smaller, blacker, and flatter than the ant in these pics. Imo, the pics look like a Solenopsis, but im pretty new to ant keeping myself having just started this summer. Hope this helped!
Ask not what your ants can do for you, ask what you can do for your ants.

I'm thinking Pheidole or Solenopsis.
