No. Formica social parasites only need pupae, because these are able to open cocoons. Any species from the genus Formica will probably do.PlaylikeSteve wrote: ↑Sun Jun 10, 2018 1:58 pmSo after reading some websites, I guess I have to get some workers from the nest?
Greetings from Steve
Both your new queens are social parasites. The first one is another Formica queen, the second one is Lasius from the Dendrolasius subgenus (fuliginosus group.)

Ok. I understand now.
And again... Thank you so much for your help.
So what do you suggest me to do?
Is a social parasite an ant for beginners?
Or should I probably set them free?
How can I find pupae? Or can I get pupae other gan?

Re: Greetings and Identifying my Queen
Can I give the lasius pupae from the tetramorium?
Because my tetramorium layed eggs tonight.
Only if it could work. Because maybe I set them all free except the tetramorium.

Re: Greetings and Identifying my Queen
I should have outlined all the details for keeping the Lasius queen in my link. They need workers from the same genus (Lasius). The Formica queen needs pupae from the same genus. You'll have to find some or else you should let them go.PlaylikeSteve wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 6:09 amCan I give the lasius pupae from the tetramorium?

Ok I will let them go.
I'll keep the tetramorium. Which seems to be a good beginner ant.

Looks like Lasius emarginatus to me.

Re: Greetings and Identifying my Queen
So am I doing right when I place them both in a separate test tube setup each in the darkness? (like I did )
Room temperature and without food until the first workers arrive?
(at this point I´m a little clueless, because I find so much information about the colony starting phase. Some feed them with a drop of honey or a drop of sugar water, others say don´t feed them)
I already ordered a Lasius Haybrid 2.0 Starter Kit from the official store. So when the workers have developed, they can start to move in the portal gate with 3 test tubes attached and then in their new home.
Thank you so much for identifying my queens.
