Cotton looks dry
Hi
I got my very first queen Lasius niger about 2 weeks ago and since then she has laid many eggs, some are even in the 2nd stage. My worry is that to me the cotton wool nearest the queen and eggs looks very dry and in the last 2 weeks the water hasn't evaporated at all, what should I do?
Many thanks
Gaz.

I didn't set the test tube up. I'm new to ant keeping and got the queen without eggs online, she has lots of eggs in there now at different stages. I'm wondering if it's a good idea to put some of the protein jelly I bought online on a piece of foil in the test tube, would that give her water as well as food. I know she doesn't need food at the moment but it's more about water.
Re: Cotton looks dry
I used a qtip too push on the cotton, only problem with that is it disrupts the queen and you risk pushing too much and flooding the eggs. I am not a pro by any means.
Yaaas my queen

Re: Cotton looks dry
Thank you for your advice and I think I might try attaching a new test tube to the existing one and see what happens.

Re: Cotton looks dry
Try using a syringe to extract water. If you can, then great! But if you can't, then let her move into a new test tube.
