I found this queen ant under a tiny part of a stick today (7/19/17) at 5:45 PM. She is pure black and she is 3-4 mm. She was found in southern Louisiana.

Monomorium sp.

Wow, cool ant queen! How tiny she is! How did you manage to see her in the grass/dirt?

I found her while I was flipping over sticks and bricks. This is how I usually look for queens now. I also found a Crematogaster atkinsoni queen under a brick a while ago. I know you probably don't care, but my Crematogaster atkinsoni colony got invaded by maggots. Thank god the queen is still alive.

Monomorium minimum, most likely. M minimum is the most common Monomorium species in the U.S. of that color. Monomorium pharonis, such as AntsCanada's Tombraiders, are a different color, yet just as common.
"God made every kind of wild beasts and every kind of livestock and every kind of creeping things;" (including ants) "and God saw that it was good." Genesis 1:25
