Something a little different. First attempt at making a formicarium, so let's hope they work out.

Any feedback is appreciated. Am I missing anything big? They both have water chambers and one side entrance.

I'm also curious about hydration. Other than that, they are pretty neat! :)

Good question. Each one has a hydration chamber. The larger one is in the back against the side, with the longer tube leading to it. The smaller one is a chamber in the center, which the tube on top leads directly to. Unfortunately, I am having issues with the seal on the larger one, so I think that one might not be more than a leaning experience.

However, the smaller design is working out FANTASTIC. So well, in fact, that I made 3 more. The tube on top leads to a cavity in the core. At the bottom of that cavity are some scraps of chamois cloth. The dispersal and absorption are great.

I would really like to see a video of your colony in this and kind of a run down on wheres what. I am new to ant colonies and this is really cool. i was under the impression from the videos that you have to buy a glass tank like for reptiles and fish to put them in and just baby powder the top. I currently have Formica queens in tubes and think today i just got a componotus. so any advice you could give me on how to make this would really be appreciated :)

Also is the small tube with hydration like a spongy material? if not can you have a spong and just wet it every day and put it in the colony's habitat?
