I made these formicariums myself, and I wanted to see if there are any issues you guys can point out or any troubles I may expect.
1. I poured a block of plaster and then carved the tunnels and chambers with a baby knife.
2. I made entrances that I fit tubing into so I can connect it to anything with the same tubing in the future.
3. I then filled it with sand (I know this can be a problem) I repeatedly washed in very hot water.
4. Finally I put some Plexiglas on it with holes for water. The glass is not sealed but more like adhered; the seal is open and breathable.
Both have very simple out-worlds with plaster ground.
Here I are some pictures.

If there is anything I will have to look out for, please let me know!

Re: Critique my homemade formicaria!
Awesome formicarium, Will!
I always like to see sand in formicariums, as long as they were properly sanitized, because they help to retain more moisture and humidity.
Depending on whether you have a small species or not, I would probably check if you have properly sealed the glass so they can't crawl through the dead space but otherwise a great set up!

Thanks Mauritaniants! I'm keeping some large camponotus species in them, so I won't have to worry to much about contortionist escapees ! I'll keep my journal updated!Depending on whether you have a small species or not, I would probably check if you have properly sealed the glass so they can't crawl through the dead space but otherwise a great set up!
They are both about 8.5"x6"x2". The outworld is a tilted 6" circle. Thanks guys! What are the measurements ?
