What is the best home made formicarium material?

I have heard hydro-stone and un-sanded grout work well, but I am willing to take any suggestions. Thanks in advance!
With all the things ants can do, you wonder, who rules the planet :?

Yep if your going to make your own castings then those two are about the best.
