I have been looking for a queen for a while and I found this ant.
I've never seen anything like her before and I'm not 100% sure if she is a queen or not, but I found her in my backyard crawling around! Also, what species is she? Thanks! (btw she in on a paper towel in the picture, I used a magnifying glass to take it.)

I am guessing no, just from the this top-down view; a side-view would have been better. Look for scars on the side of her thorax where the wings used to be. I was in the same situation and found the scars that confirmed it was a queen! It is quite easy to see it, when you look closely.

I am going to guess Formica for the species, but someone else here might be better at identifying it.

Really hard to tell from that angle, but I would say it is a queen. Length really helps, too.

She is a queen. I made a post in the identification section with more pictures. I was told she probably wont make it though  I'll let everyone know if she lives.
