Hey guys first time posting and glad to be here however I need a bit of help. Last June I was able to catch two queen ants for the first time and they started laying eggs in about 3-5 weeks in a test tube setup and proceeded to eat them soon after. I gave them a drop of honey after two months and placed them in an incubator meant for reptile eggs that I had from my snakes. I have continued to feed them a small drop of honey every 3 weeks and I have moved them into new test tubes as the water has dried out Three times. One sadly passed away in the third tube with no eggs after she ate the last of them and the other that is still alive I had to move into a 4th after a mold outbreak and what looked like good eggs turning darker. I attached some photos of the queen ant I still have with the most recent moldy tube and clean one she is now in. I have found these queens nests under large rocks and paver stoned left by the previous owners of my home and they seem to do really well where I am but don't know what I am doing wrong at this point.
My question to summarize are....
1. What species is this?
2. Should I give up after a year and let her be free her remaining days as I approach spring again?
