What is "black garden ants". There is at least a dozen species with this common name. Lasius niger typically nest about 1 meter, but are can be close to the surface under rocks in summer

I believe he is referring to Lasius neoniger, as he is in North America. I also often find them nesting under rocks like SolenopsisKeeper said.
Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
