Pogonomyrmex eats mainly seeds, so it's easier to feed them.But they also have a painful bite that can cause allergic reactions. Formica grows reasonably fast and can have multiple queens, but they get stressed with the littlest of disturbances. I don't know this for sure but I believe that Pogonomyrmex doesn't need hibernation, correct me if I'm wrong.

Depending on where they live, they still need hibernation. If all the other ants hibernate in that area, Pogonomyrmex need to as well. I would go with Pogonomyrmex, just because I think they are cooler.

Ah oke, I assumed that because they lived in desert And steppe like area's they didn't need hibernation. I would go with Pogonomyrmex as well.
