yes, I have actually done that with polyrhachis ants because I had like 20 colonies

got a sugar ant colony started :)

then it should work unless your colony only accepted them as food for the larvae...

No, it was for work to be done. It was a small colony, and people say you shouldn’t raise them in modular nest, but I use ytong filled with soil so it is fine, but I monitored it closely. One worker died a few weeks after, and they ate its gaster(they didn’t kill I watched him die at 12 in night)
