Species
Hello I'm new to ant keeping and just today I came across what I thought was a vary small ant colony and I thought I saw a queen so I dug it up and put it in a jar however on top of the Mound there was what seemed like a dirt cocoon and what I think are ants seem to be living inside it so I am not sure if they are ants or some type of other burrowing insect perhaps maybe even termites I cannot figure out how to post a picture if anybody could help me identify these animals it would help me a lot

What you saw was probably a soldier termite.

Or It could have been a reproductive termite alate. Many people often confuse ant and termite reproductives.
An ants' strength can be rivaled by few animals compared to relative body size.

I wouldn't think termites would fly this time of year.
