So I know that Camponotus queens mostly burrow in dead damp wood after nuptial flight, so when I saw this little fresh pile of wood shavings under a little hole in a log. I had to find out what was inside!
I took a hatchet and very carefully shaved of layer by layer (the wood was very soft) and guess what I found!
Also if someone could please ID, I believe it is a Camponotus pennsylvanicus, she is about 2 cm, caught 4/31/15 and I believe she flew the night before since the shavings were fresh. Caught in Chester County PA

Looks like camponotus penn.

you should go get that piece of wood back, and make Camponotus Sp. nests out of it.

Thanks I am sure now that it is a camponotus penn thanks to everyone! A few days later I was unrolling a tarp that had been sitting out side for a week, and bam! Another camponotus penn. That will make 32 queens so far this season!
