Hi. And thanks for letting me into the AntsCanada colony
My son was given some messor barbarous ants in November. We have done a lot of reading but are beginners. They were in a tube - queen and about 30 workers. They moved into their nest soon after and hav been collecting seeds since. He REALLY loves these little guys but we're not sure about something.
The instructions we got were a bit ambiguous in whether they need to hibernate or not.
The queen stopped laying when they moved but they workers are still moving about.
My 10 year old is a worrier and we just want to do the right thing. They are at room temp just now. All advice really apreciated. Thanks - from Scotland

Re: New ants in november
You should put them in a room were it is slightly cold but not to cold. You have noting to worry about even if you do not hibernate them they will act sluggish and start to slow down.
My current colonies:
-Miniature Military(formica neogagates)
-Black Hearts(crematogaster cerasi)
In search of new camponotus colony
[Have a look at antmaps.org]
