This is for newcomers who wish to become more acquainted with the ant species/genera which will commonly be talked of on their ant keeping journey.

Acromyrmex/Atta (leafcutter ants)

Leafcutter ants are known for their unique diet of fungus, which they culture and grow. They feed their fungus with, as their name suggests, cut up leaves. Acromyrmex are generally polygynous, while Atta are not. However, both genera are polymorphic. They are usually a dark red color, and have spikes on their petiole. They can be found in South America, Central America, Mexico, and the Southwestern U.S.
