Event
I think we should have an event. Maybe a photography contest? Any other suggestions? Also mods what do you think about this? If anyone wants to help me let me know. Also I will wait for the okay from a mods before I do anything.
Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?
There are so many fascinating ants right where you live!
I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that aren't in your area.

Re: Event
A photography contest sounds nice but we should wait until warmer weather, even the most hard tolerant Camponotus aren't out in Washington. Unless you want the whole competetion to be Prenolepis imparis

What if we would do a competition in ButhiGame:https://buthidae.pics/? It is an identification game. I did this on a different ant keeping place, and it was pretty fun! If anyone is interested I will explain it more.

Re: Event
In general it sounds good, but I recommend to send a mail to info[at]AntsCanada[dot]com to check with the AC team. I would say, they are fine with it, but they should let me know if they approve of this kind of Event and what their rules are. For example yes, as long as the price is sponsored by someone or as long as it's about Ants.
It's your idea so I leave you with all the organizational "paper" work.

Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

Okay. I was not planning on having money involved, I just thought we could have a little event.AntsLuxembourg wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 8:49 amIn general it sounds good, but I recommend to send a mail to info[at]AntsCanada[dot]com to check with the AC team. Re: Event
Ooh so it is basically like we have to post photos of ants and the guy with the best photo gets internet fame
Its actually pretty fun but if in future maybe we could scale it and have actual money prize and AntsCanada himself would announce it on his channel, and these events could be done every year, the forum might grow and the community could become larger

Re: Event
You could even do it monthly. And if it grows bigger, it might bring some more people into the hobby of Antkeeping.
BUT you need to set clear rules. Like, the pictures, must have been taken during that month, with proof. Like the file timestamp. And the ant must be alive and not be harmed or in a harmful situation. Like about to drown or a bird is about to eat it. or everyone needs to be at least 16 years old to submit pictures. *shrug* Just some ideas
It's your event, so you make the rules.
if price money is involved, be sure that what the laws of your country say and that you convey those to everyone. Perhaps your country has a law like: Winners of contest must give 5% of their price money to a charity or something. I don't want to read here, that you are about to go to jail or something.
Think of everything.

Ya, I have had some prior experience with this kind of thing, setting a few up on a Discord server.AntsLuxembourg wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 7:21 amYou could even do it monthly. And if it grows bigger, it might bring some more people into the hobby of Antkeeping.

Would anyone want to help me do this? AntsLuxembourg, do you think you could set up a private topic for the people working on it (or maybe you can't do that, idk).
