Freeze dried means they contain no moisture, so they would be hard to eat and digest for your ants.
You could try mixing a bit of peanut butter, a drop of honey and a drop of water.
Boiled egg white would do too

Thing is, my dog eats dry food.
So? You want it for your ants don't you? Spoil your dog for once, and see how the ants like it. If it works get a small tin and you're all set for weeks to feed your ants
Don't want to nag, but feeding your dog nothing but dry food isn't good for his kidneys and intestinal flora.

Between the crickets and dog food, I'd go for the latter

Would the egg yolk have any protein in it?

Yes it would, but it crumbles, sticks to the ants and they will spread it everywhere. where it might then attract fungus

So I hard-boil an egg, and give them the whites only?
