Re: Washington species.
Hi DGWants,
Tons of species up here. Best to look between April-Sept. Winter ants SHOULD be out around this time, however I have yet to see any ants this year (I live in sammamish). I dont have IDs on my current ants, however I know atleast a few are; formica and carpenter. Then I have some tiny queens as well. The carpenter ants are HUGE, by far my favorite to watch. They seem to have a lot more obvious personality, but they do grow a lot slower as a colony.
Good luck in finding ants this year!! Just walk on side walks that have grass on atleast 1 side, and youll find them. I got used to keeping my eyes on the ground while walking around and I found a bunch last year. Just watch where you're going!

I have yet to see a single ant in the wild in 2018. Its been really rainy though. Keep checking though! They will be out soon! I am hoping to snag a winter one this year as well.
