What are the common species in europe, and how do you tell them apart?

I just started out in this hobby, and cant seem to grasp how to even sort the different geenuses of ants, I know som enames of geenuses, formica, campanotis, solenopsis, but thats it. I cant see an ant and place it in a geenus. How do you tell them apart? :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:
