Hey guys I had a cool idea and it is, I have a winter ant colony right now but my idea is that I get a summer ant colony as well so to have a year round duo. Feel free to comment on this idea and respond to the poll. Of course it depends on what I find during nuptial flight but I will try to look for these species.
A prenolepis imparis colony with repletes and a big queen also 10 chickens and 1 annoying brother.

I would say Lasius would be a nice partner colony for the summer but carpenter ants are just more interesting so try to find one of those. :)
Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

This is the first poll I've seen in the years I used this forum. Anyway, I chose Lasius since they grow faster but Camponotus is good too.

Camponotus is nice, but they often are slow growing and lay eggs in batches. This means you could have no new eggs for weeks, and possibly months. However, Camponotus sp. are usually polymorphic, and have some neat majors. This also gives some nice visibility for the observer. I have never kept Lasius, but I have heard it takes about a year to go from queen to queen+ 100 workers.
