black light for catching ants during nuptial flight
hey guys! I was wondering if any of you experimented with black lights for catching queen ants during nuptial flight season as I have used black light in the past for catching food for my colonies it worked really well I caught large amounts of beetles and other insects. my question is will this work for nuptial flight. as I have been monitoring local camponotis colonys in the wild they appear to be getting ready I believe it will happen 4/29/2020

Yeah, I use a blacklight trap that I built myself. It has caught 5 tapinoma sessile queens, however they have all been unfertilized. Idk if thats just bad luck or if it will only attract unfertilized ants. I'd say its worth a shot, but I wouldn't blow big money and anything super extravagant.
