Hi,
I am new to this site. I learned about it through youtube.
I live in Rhode Island (near Boston). This year 2021 my son and I were on a quest to catch an ant queen to start an ant farm. As the year progressed I learned many things about ants, and I have caught what I think are species: crazy ant being about 3 mm, pavement ants at 1 cm, red ants at 1 cm, unknown orange ants at 3 mm, and carpenter ant at about 2 cm.
Wow!
I am typing on a tablet, sorry about the formatting.
The queen ants are each kept in a glass tube with clean cotton and water.
Many of them have laid eggs. The earliest queen caught was about a month ago. I check them weekly.
The trouble is I have caught only 1 or 2 ants of each species except pavement ants. I have caught dozens of those. Too many for me to keep.
Should I release the pavement ants or try to sell them and give them away? If so, how?
I assume there are other ppl in RI looking for queens. I know I was until I caught some. But I don't know where to reach them.
Thanks, G

You can sell them at the GAN project, go to AntsCanada.com and click 'Queen ants for sale'.

Re: Rhode Island too many queens
Thank you. I was just checking out that web page. If I read correctly, I should wait until eggs hatch before listing ants there.
Re: Rhode Island too many queens
Yes, you should wait until they have workers before you can sell them.
