I found these 2 queens within the last couple days, and I was wondering what exact species they were. I'm pretty sure they are both formica of some kind, but I'm not sure.

I was also wondering if the one that is more dark in color is injured/less healthy. I noticed that she is more sluggish and one of the segments of her gaster is kinda sticking out. Should I be concerned or is this okay?
P.S. The one that is more brown has laid a couple eggs

Re: ID 2 queens
Can someone help please? Thanks.
Doing some proper research is the best way to start an antcolony.

A size in mm would help with spieces, and yes they do appear to be Formica.applepie wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 11:32 pmI found these 2 queens within the last couple days, and I was wondering what exact species they were. I'm pretty sure they are both formica of some kind, but I'm not sure.

As for the gaster issue, she may have been injured during flights or have a defect, but it sounds like she is mated(Clear lines between gaster segments?)
