Re: Identify these queens
the queen doesn't look like a camponotus spp. to me. I feel like it might be either lacius spp. or formica spp. to me. Formica polyctena comes to mind but I'm not sure.

You didn't add a picture George If you want to know how, there is a sticky post on the forum explaining the processGeorge wrote: ↑Sat Jul 14, 2018 11:56 amHi AC Family,
I came across your channel and have loved every episode!!
I’ve been wanting to start my own Ant farm but from locally caught queens...I’ve been looking for weeks now and have finally come across this beautiful lady on my walk...Now I’m super new to this so not even 100% sure it’s an Ant...
Please can you view pic and let me know if I’ve actually managed to capture and queen and possibly what species?
Caught 14/07/2018 in NL, Amsterdam...precisely 9mm from Jaws to tip of Gastor
First year of antkeeping, already enjoying it!
Currently founding:
Lasius niger
Lasius umbratus
Lasius flavus
Still hoping to find a Formica queen.

Re: Identify these queens
Could I get some help identifying this queen?
https://youtu.be/btjjH8Yy9t8
I found 2 of them in the same parking lot back to back in Collinsville Illinois. Did I get lucky and find 2 Queen carpenter ants?
I hope so because this will be my be my 1st A.N.T. Farm. I've managed to catch 3 pavement ant queens (tiny little black ones) and 2 of the bigger ants in the video. Fingers crossed, my 2 kids would love the larger ones to watch.

Re: Identify these queens
It would be helpfull if you guys make your own post for your queens following the guidelines as described here:

It's getting increasingly difficult to sift through all these queens...

Re: Identify these queens
Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and any keeping, however, yesterday I managed to catch hundreds? of queens ants. My test tubes are on its way and I will be picking 20 of them for the testtubes. I think they are Lasius niger? a common black garden ant in the UK? If anyone can confirm, that will be great. Video link below:

Also if anyone near me wants some, please feel free to come over to collect them I dont think I have that many space for so many colonies lol.
