Hi guys. Found this lady last night in a carpenter and sawdust pile on my deck. I thought she was one until I looked closer. She is about 8-9mm.

Also, I caught a lasius interjectus queen and after doing some research I am debating letting her go. Has anyone successfully raised a colony of this species? I read batspiders guide on social parasites but it sound like this particular species is challenging. Thanks

Looks more like Lasius umbratus, but the pictures are a little dark. Not many people have raised Lasius parasites, in part because it is somewhat difficult, and in part because it is intimidating. L. umbratus is at least one of the easiest to keep.
If you enjoy my expertise and identifications, please do not put wild populations at risk of disease by releasing pet colonies. We are responsible to give our pets the best care we can manage for the rest of their lives.
