Please help identify Utah ant

I found 2 of these. One about 9:30 am and one at 7:00 pm. I'm a little curious because I first thought they were velvet ants. They are pretty clumsy and have a difficult time righting themselves after they are on their backs. They can't do it on glass. They don't climb well.

Environment: Open fir and maple forest with meadows. On the edge of an asphalt trailhead parking walking on the ground litter.
