Re: Queen Ant Identification
Can I jump in on this thread or should I do a new one? I have a queen that's been in a test tube for a month and wondered if I should feed it - not sure what type of species it is.

Re: Queen Ant Identification
Ok so I'm a long-time fan of AntsCanada but I am still new to identifying queen species. Now if pictures are needed I will try to provide them but my camera isn't the best. I've recently found two queens and I'm having trouble identifying them.. they are small.. No bigger than a pinkie finger nail, and are black with a dark brown shimmer on their abdomen. But when I found them I was standing on a sidewalk and noticed that there was at least 50 of them all scattering around on the sidewalk, so I'm almost positive the species is polygynous. All of the queens had no wings and none of them were males. But when I tried to keep the queens in the same container after I caught them they started to fight... the reason I want to know is becuase one of the two is doing extremely well but the other isn't showing promising signs.. So my question is.. if the species turns out to be one that is polygynous, could I mix the queens so that the queen that isn't doing well may have an easier time? (Sorry for my long post)

Best to create your own post, otherwise they won't be seen well, or have room for discussion. Also yes, pics,measurements and location are crucial for ID's.
Proverbs 6:6-8
Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

Looks like Brachymyrmex, judging on the size.
