I find AntWiki very helpful, but you kind of need to have a vague idea of where to start looking. Does anyone have any suggestions for other useful tools or guides to help learn what to look for? I'd like to be able to be more helpful on this part of the forum.

Antweb and Antmaps are what I use the most. Bugguide can also be helpful, in terms of browsing.
hol.osu.edu is also a good database for descriptions.
