Small Black Queen, Egg in Mouth
I was down in a dried up creek bed just looking around. I saw the tiniest black queen I have ever seen. She is very fast and I noticed a small white dot in her mouth, probably an egg. I was wondering what species she is and why she was wandering around with an egg in her mouth in the open. She is around 5-6 mm long. I am thinking Monomorium but not sure the species.

Appears to be Lasius sp, but would need closer photos to properly ID.This is not Monomorium because it is lacking a post petiole.

Are lasius bigger or smaller than tetra? I have a tetra queen but I was hoping for something for something a bit cooler.Aquaexploder wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2017 8:17 pmAppears to be Lasius sp, but would need closer photos to properly ID.This is not Monomorium because it is lacking a post petiole.

Like I said we would need closer pictures to get a proper id, but if it is Lasius it would be smaller than Tetramorium.

Tapinoma sessile
Tetramorium queens are typically smaller than Lasius.
