Camponotus Queen? - Toronto June 11

Hello All,

I caught my first ant I am hoping is a queen. This ant was caught in Toronto on June 11 2017. It is approx 16mm long. I think based on the size of the head, it is a queen as opposed to a drone? I've just started getting interested in ant keeping a month ago though, so I don't really know what I am talking about...

I've had her in the test tube setup for 2 days now and but the wings still haven't dropped. She seems to be spending all her time trying to escape the tube. I have her in a dark closet that is warmer than the rest of the house and the tube is wrapped in paper towel.

Can anyone tell if this is a queen for sure and the species? Am I making any glaring mistakes?

Thanks,

I would definitely say Camponotus queen, and I wouldn't worry about the wings, some queens never lose their wings.

Is the queen uniformly black, or some red on the mesosoma/gaster? Better pics would be nice. :)
