Help us identify please!
Hello! My son, who is about to turn 9 just recently got into keeping ants. He found this one. We thing it's a carpenter ant. But we're not totally sure. We are in Kentucky. Thanks!!

The photo says you need to grant access.

I believe you measure them from head to end of abdomen, excluding legs and antennae. Definitely looks like a queen ant though!

Oh geez. I don't know if I can do that. We're also trying to not disturb her so she starts laying, hopefully!. We believe she's a carpenter ant....
